Using Certified Organic Alcohol in Haircare

What is a Preservative?

Preservatives are an ingredient used to prevent microbial growth in products. Microbes such as bacteria, yeast & mold grow in liquids such as water & hydrosols (to name a few). Whenever you use water or a water-based ingredient, microbes will eventually grow. If a product claims preservative-free but contains water or another liquid, run far far away!

To inhibit microbial growth, preservatives must be used in our products to keep them fresh & safe for use.

Using Certified Organic Alcohol in Haircare

Alcohol has received a lot of bad press when it comes to skincare, personal care & cosmetics. The problem with this is that alcohol is a general term. There are certain types of alcohol that aren’t great for your skin and hair (like the rubbing alcohol in your first aid kit), but not all alcohols are inherently bad.

We use organic sugarcane alcohol for its ability to act as:

1. A preservative to keep our products fresh & safe by inhibiting bacterial growth.

2. An emulsifier which allows two different substances to blend together. For example, rose water & organic oils do not blend together on their own, so using organic cane sugar alcohol as an emulsifier works to combine these two ingredients & keep them from separating.

 3. An ingredient enhancer to improve the delivery of active ingredients to the scalp and hair, and enhancing the overall performance of our products.

So not only does organic sugarcane alcohol help preserve our products, but it actually enhances the haircare benefits as well! It may be time to rethink the bad press you’ve seen about alcohol. We believe our organic sugarcane alcohol is the safest & most effective natural preservative to keep our products fresh while also helping to deliver all the benefits of our wonderful organic & natural ingredients.
